Bhutan's Paro Festival
The festivals in Bhutan are known the world over for their colour and energy. Admire the chanting, dancing and incredible constumes as you mix with local Bhutanese in the crowds. The various festivals are scattered around the country throughout the year, so try to schedule your trip around one!
Day 2 Dochula Pass – Punakha
Today you’ll be privately driven to Punakha, stopping en route to explore the majestic Dochula Pass and memorial, visit Chimi Lhakhang known as the Temple of Divine Madmen, and wander around Punakha Dzong.
After settling into your hotel, choose between two guided walking tours before dinner.
Day 3 Phobjikha Valley
Day 3
Start your day with a gentle hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Aftewards, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful in the country, where you have the option to join a rafting adventure down the river.
After lunch, transfer to the Phobjikha Valley, where you’ll explore the Gangtey Monastery and visit the rare black-necked crane sanctuary.
Day 4
Set out on a nature walk through the spectacular Phobjikha Valley. This area is heaven for hikers and you can choose the length and difficulty of your hike – the trails are endless!
After your hike, relax back at your hotel and take in the serene views. Treat yourself to a hot stone bath if desired.
Day 4 Paro
DAY 5
Today you’ll transfer back to Paro to enjoy the festivities of the Paro Masked Dance Festival. Watch masked dances with a moral theme, listen to chanting and blessings, and see locals dressed in their finest silks.
The highlight of the festival is the unfurling of the thangkha, which takes place at dawn, followed by prayer ceremonies and public blessings.
DAY 6
Spend today enjoying the Paro Masked Dance Festival and visiting the ruined fortress of Drukgyal Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang.
DAY 7
Enjoy a morning hike or horse ride to the Taktsang Monastery and Temple, known as the Tiger’s Nest.
The afternoon is free for you to spend at your leisure. Your Travel Designer can recommend activities that suit your needs prior to departure, or you could choose to simply unwind with a massage in the spa.
Day 5 Departure
Today you’ll be escorted to the airport for your onward journey.
