Luxury Safaris in Tanzania

On a safari holiday to Tanzania, the Northern circuit with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater offers one of the best classic safaris in Africa, especially if timed with the annual wildebeest migration.

You’ll have few problems spotting the more-prominent African animals here. Lion, elephant, giraffe and buffalo roam freely; for big cats like leopard and cheetah you’ll need to head to the Serengeti; while Ngorongoro Crater will provide more of a chance of seeing a black rhino. Other safari highlights in Tanzania include chimpanzee tracking in the remote Mahale Mountains near Lake Tanganyika in Western Tanzania.

The Nyerere National Park is also well worth a visit. One of the largest and most important game reserves in Africa, the national park here (formerly known as Selous) is full of tangled jungles, meandering hippo and crocodile-filled rivers.

As well as being one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations, Tanzania also has 800 kilometres of dazzling Indian Ocean coastline – not to mention tropical Zanzibar and the other exotic islands that aren’t far offshore.
