Goatfell

Hill Country , Sri Lanka

In the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, Goatfell is a luxurious tea bungalow hotel situated 2,000m above sea level, basking in glorious hill country views.

Formerly home to the managers of the Concordia Estate, this century-old bungalow with four atmospheric bedrooms is furnished with a mix of hand-sourced antique and custom-designed contemporary pieces.

The enveloping tea hills, waterfalls, and heart-stopping panoramas are a walkers’ paradise. The bungalow sits atop a hill on the outskirts of Kandapola, a 25-minute drive from Nuwara Eliya.

Best Time to Visit

The best months to visit Nuwara Eliya are between January and April and again in July and August.

May, June, October, and November are often wet but still have plenty of spells of good sunshine.

Accommodation

At Goatfell, there are four spacious twin and double bedrooms. Each room has a sitting area, private garden, and terrace. The rooms are tastefully furnished with a mix of hand-sourced antiques and custom-designed contemporary pieces.

The Concordia Twin Bedroom can be interconnected with a Concordia Double Bedroom for families.

All bedrooms are equipped with heaters and hot water bottles for cooler nights.

Activities

The cool, fresh mountain climate of Kandapola makes this a superb destination for exploring the outdoors.

The bungalow’s tea estate provides an excellent introduction to connect you with the surrounding environment and the community we live in, and you can stroll along the tea-fringed estate roads either on your own or with one of the butlers.

The curated experiences take in the region’s main attractions. Explore the sights of the colonial-era hill station town of Nuwara Eliya or visit Horton Plains National Park to peer down from dramatic World’s End whilst strolling through the reserve’s plains and high-altitude cloud forest.

Other highlights include an informative tea factory tour, visiting the Hakgala Botanical Gardens and swimming in incredible waterfalls.

Facilities

The open-air pool offers stunning views of the Hill Country. It's perfect for a refreshing dip or sunbathing with a good book, though it's not heated.

The bungalow suits wheelchair users, and all rooms have walk-in showers.

The casual restaurant is family-friendly, and room service is available.

Babysitting is available with 15 days' notice.

Sustainability

At Goatfell, guests can enjoy farm-to-table dishes using ingredients sourced from the bungalow’s home gardens. The bungalow follows a sustainable food supply system, managing its house gardens more efficiently to achieve greater cost savings and working more with local suppliers to further reduce food miles.

Children

Goatfell’s spacious accommodation is designed for both luxury and practicality, making it an excellent place for families to unwind while experiencing the genuine warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality.

The hotel’s rooms can be booked inpidually and available for exclusive use. In-house amenities like an extra bed, cot, high chair, and children’s menu are readily available.

The drive from Colombo’s International Airport to Goatfell takes approximately 5.5 hours by car.

Why we recommend Goatfell

"Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘Little England’ is a walkers’ paradise in Sri Lanka’s tea country.  Many of Nuwara Eliya’s key places of interest like the Post Office, Racecourse, Hakgala Botanical Gardens and Sita Ella Hindu Kovil are just a short drive from the bungalow"
