Sucre is often said to be Bolivia’s most beautiful city and the reason for this is immediately apparent as soon as you arrive. It sits in the heart of high Andean valley, surrounded by low-rise mountains and decorated with a wealth of whitewashed colonial buildings that seem almost deliberately designed to transport you back in time. Sucre was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 and serious efforts have been made to preserve its historical treasures.
The Bolivian capital’s genteel, old-fashioned atmosphere pleasantly complements its colonial architecture. And while Sucre will certainly appeal to students of history, it will also appeal to those who want a genuine experience of laid-back South American day-to-day life. Visitors come to see the Casa de Libertad or Museo de le Catedral, as well as the numerous quaint churches and galleries, but they stay to soak up the atmosphere, to wander the cobbled streets and squares, and take day trips to the surrounding mountains.
Sucre is one of those places that you intend to visit for a night or so, but end up staying much longer. Contact your Lightfoot Travel Designer to start planning your luxury tailor-made luxury vacation today.
