The Arctic Circle remains one of the planet’s last great frontiers. The treeless environment offers up exquisite nature from ice fjords to blue glaciers, as well as a few of the Earth’s most fascinating natural phenomena: the Midnight Sun, where the sun never sets; the Polar Nights, where it never rises; and the Aurora Borealis - or Northern Lights - a magical dancing lightshow across the Arctic sky. Many species of wildlife exist here, and you can expect to see fishing polar bears, walruses, beluga and narwhal whales, or herds of reindeer or caribou.

Antarctica is a land of snow-capped mountains, neverending icebergs, dazzling ice shelves and ancient glaciers. While the continent is largely uninhabited, you can get up close to large crowds of Emperor penguins and spot fur seals languishing on the shore. Whale watching in Antarctica is a must-do experience. The freezing waters of the Southern Ocean are a comfortable habitat for the tale-thumping humpbacks, gargantuan blue whales and orcas, so keep your eyes peeled.
