Fogo Island Inn

Canada

As unique and remote as the island it sits on, Fogo Island Inn is situated on one of the Earth’s four corners along the coast of the most powerful ocean on the planet, the Northern Atlantic. Fogo Island Inn was uniquely built on stilts to withstand the test of time and the tumultuous changes in seasons, the design inside and out is prided on the harmonious meld between the traditional Fogo Island way of living and a modern twist.

Comprised of material and décor all sourced from the island, Fogo Island Inn was made to pay homage to the island’s rich history of dedicated citizens that found their livelihood through fishing, by the owner and self-proclaimed ‘Inn Keeper’, Zita Cobb, a Fogo Island native. This is why Fogo Island Inn is a 100% social business and community asset of Shorefast, a Canadian charity made to uphold the cultural and economic resiliency of Fogo Island. All operating surpluses made at Fogo Island Inn are reinvested back into Fogo Island through community programs and project initiatives.

When visiting Fogo Island Inn, you will instantly be immersed in a strong presence of a place that highlights its natural environment and the culture that surrounds it. Housing only 29 suites, each offers a welcoming and familiar stay to make you feel at home, accompanied by some lavish features that include a freestanding bathtub, wood stove, and custom-made, organic, natural-fiber beds, furniture, and textiles.

As time transitions through the island’s seven distinct seasons, so do its menus. Regardless of the season, all ingredients prepared for guests have been locally fished, farmed, and foraged from the island just hours before it is served. The cuisine served at Fogo Island Inn is a medium through which nature and culture meet to create a distinct sense of locality. Paired alongside the dramatic vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room, guests can revel in the views of the land from which their food came while enjoying their meals.

Fogo Island Inn offers a variety of activities for you to choose from, some of which are guided by Community Hosts of Fogo Island to give you a more authentic experience and even warmer welcome. Whether you are enjoying cocktails and live music in the Bar & Lounge, picking wild berries, or relaxing in the Rooftop Sauna, Fogo Island Inn offers a once-in-a-lifetime look into this rare island treasure that will leave you wanting more.
