The city of Lucerne is quintessentially Swiss. Picturesque spires and churches and elegant edifices line the cobblestone streets. No one would blame you for getting lost perusing the Old town while taking in all its beauty.
While it may not boast the extravagant nightlife and high-end retail heaven of cities like Zurich, this is the place to cozy up in one of the many beer halls or cafes and enjoy craft lager or a cappuccino. Zermatt is the epitome of Alpine beauty; a fairy-tale 19th century Swiss village set against the iconic Matterhorn – a mighty peak, conquered for the first time by British mountaineer Edward Whymper some 150 years ago. Its high-altitude glaciers mean you can ski in Zermatt 365 days a year.
Zermatt’s ski area covers some 360km and is globally recognised as top-tier ski resort. Our experience of Zermatt has found that it is one of the best resorts in the world for intermediate, while also being a superb choice for families. Its glacial-skiing, spectacular off-piste trails and a cluster of 4,000 metre plus peaks on the Klein Matterhorn ensure there is plenty to challenge advanced skiers. Zermatt’s high-altitude makes it noticeably snowsure the year around.
