In the cypress-lined hills outside Florence, Belmond Villa San Michele sits in the home of a former Franciscan monastery among terraced gardens that look out across the city.
With just 46 suites and bedrooms, the property is a national monument dating from the 15th century, the building’s façade having been designed by Michelangelo himself. Inside, public areas and bedrooms contain frescoes and antiques. Outside, the gardens are filled with secluded spots in which to enjoy the spectacular views.
