Day 1
Arrival Mexico City
Upon arrival at Mexico City, you’ll be escorted by car to your accommodation. The remainder of your day will be spent at leisure.
Day 2
Mexico City
Your stay in Mexico City begins with a half-day walking tour of the historic centre, including the National Palace, Zocalo Square, Metropolitan Cathedral and Temple Mayor. The tour concludes with a two-hour chocolate tasting at the Mucho Mundo Chocolate Museum.
In the evening, enjoy a Mexican dinner accompanied by Mexican wine or artisanal beer in the vibrant neighbourhood of La Rosa.
Day 3
Mexico City – San Angel – Coyoacán – Xochimilco
Today your private guide will take you on a full-day tour of Mexico City’s southern neighbourhoods. Explore the district of San Angel – if you visit on a Saturday, you can enjoy the Bazar de Sabado – before moving to the historic area of Coyoacán, where you’ll enjoy lunch at an authentic Mexican market before exploring Frida Kahlo’s Blue House.
Your final stop will be Xochimilco, where you’ll see its famous canals by boat while spotting local wildlife. Depending on time, you may also visit the Museum of Dolores Olmedo.
Day 4
Mexico City
Today, you’ll enjoy a walking tour of the cosmopolitan Roma neighbourhood, learning about its unique architecture and experiencing its food markets.
Day 5
Mexico City – Paso de Cortes – Cholula – Puebla
Leaving Mexico City, your guide will take you to the mountainous port of Paso de Cortes, where you have views over volcanoes and the Valley of Mexico, before stopping for lunch.
The tour continues in Cholula, the oldest continuously inhabited town in the Americas and home to the Great Pyramid.
You’ll then continue to your hotel in Puebla.
Day 6
Puebla
Start your stay in Puebla with a half-day foodie walking tour through the historic centre. Along the way you’ll see some of the city’s iconic sights, including Palafoxiana (the first library in the Americas) and Capilla de Rosario, while tasting specialities such as tamales, molotes, pelonas and camotes.
The afternoon will be spent at leisure – your Travel Designer can recommend activities that suit your interests before departure.
Day 7
Puebla
It’s time for a hands-on experience of Mexican food. Chef Cortez will escort you to a local market to teach you about Mexican produce, before you try cooking mole poblano, one of Mexico’s classic dishes.
Day 8
Puebla – Oaxaca
Today begins with a four-hour transfer to Oaxaca, where you’ll have time to unpack and refresh before your evening delicacies tour.
The tour begins with a tasting of Oaxaca’s famous mezcales, before heading to a popular locals’ eatery to sample grilled Oaxacan Tlayuda.
Day 9
Oaxaca
This morning enjoy a half-day walking tour of Oaxaca’s historic centre, where you’ll visit the Museum of Culture and try regional specialities such as hot chocolate and grasshoppers.
In the afternoon embark on a cookery class at Casa Crespo. Start with a trip to a local market to learn about Oaxacan cuisine, before learning how to make tortillas, soup, guacamole and moles. Eat your creations with a glass of mezcal or a local beer.
Day 10
Oaxaca – Teotitlan Del Valle
Enjoy a full-day excursion to the pretty village of Teotitlan Del Valle. Here you’ll visit a church, before going on a guided tour of the market and visiting a local family to see how traditional rugs are woven.
You’ll then head to another family home to learn more of Oaxaca’s culinary secrets.
Day 11
Oaxaca – Mitla
Your final day takes you to the ceremonial site of Mitla in Mesoamerica. Enjoy a guided tour of the archaeological site, famous for its colourful mosaics, and a 16th century church, before lunch at a local restaurant.
Next, head into the Valley of Oaxaca to learn about mezcal production and enjoy another tasting of this famous drink.
Day 12
Departure
Today you’ll be escorted to the airport for your onward journey.
