There are 103 guestrooms and suites. The elegant rooms are decorated in earthy tones with handmade furniture and artworks by local artisans. Some rooms feature views of the volcano, sometimes accompanied by glowing lava flows and sparks, while deluxe rooms and suites feature hot-spring-fed hot tubs.
Guests enjoy access to the thermal resort, with over a dozen pools flowing alongside waterfalls and secluded bathing spots. There’s an adults-only Shangri-La Gardens exclusively for hotel guests.
The two restaurants serve Costa Rican cuisine and international dishes, and there are a handful of bars dotted around along with an open-air spa deep in the rainforest.

Locations don’t get more dramatic than Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, which receives daily lava displays and nighttime light shows from Arenal volcano - one of the world’s ten most active, but harmless, volcanoes. A stay here provides guests with a strong bond with nature, especially at the Grand Spa where the outdoor rooms incorporate the smells of the rainforest and murmurs of the hot springs. Volcano-heated water is also used in the hot tubs, and the traditional Temazcal, a detoxifying ritual performed in a sweat lodge, uses natural elements to revive and revitalise.
