Located in the southwest of Kangaroo Island, this wilderness and wellness retreat is surrounded by wild terrain, dramatic coastline, and unique wildlife leading to the region’s status as the Australian Galapagos.
The 21 luxurious suites stretch along the clifftop, with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing cinematic views of the coast and wilderness. Inside, sustainable materials are complemented by bespoke furniture and local artworks. Outside, each suite has a private deck, while the Osprey Pavilion has its own plunge pool.
The restaurant showcases southern Australian produce, complemented by a range of premium local wines and beers, and sunset drinks are served each evening.
Guests enjoy a range of experiences including guided tours, quad bike safaris, mountain biking, and kayaking. Alternatively, retreat to the Southern Spa for some pampering with a spectacular view.

Location & Getting There
Located on Kangaroo Island, this iconic and pioneering lodge is perched on a cliff along Hanson Bay, which is a 50-minute drive from Kingscote Airport or a 90-minute drive from the island's ferry terminal. There are regular 30-minute flights between Adelaide and Kingscote, as well as regular 45-minute ferry transfers between Cape Jervis on the mainland and Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Private charter flights can be arranged from Adelaide to Kingscote or Snug Cove, an exclusive private airfield just a 30-minutes drive from the Lodge.
Accommodation
The 21 glass-fronted suites all provide captivating views of the Southern Ocean. Interiors feature lavish king beds, a sunken lounge, dramatic glass-walled bathrooms along with an outdoor terrace with a relaxing day bed. There is also a walk-in wardrobe, complimentary room bar, twice-daily housekeeping, optional climate control, heated floors, and a music system.

There is a huge range of offers available at Southern Ocean Lodge. Go on guided island excursions with knowledgeable guides, visit the vast wilderness of Flinders Chase National Park, discover the island's epicurean delights, go beach fishing, coastal clifftop trekking, and mountain biking.
