Located on the banks of the Salar de Uyuni, the Palacio de Sal is the world’s first salt hotel. Its floors, walls and ceilings are constructed entirely from blocks of salt, along with many items of furniture. The brainchild of Juan Quesada Valda, the hotel was originally built in 1998 and moved to its current location in 2004.
There are rooms in three classes, each with private en suites with hot and cold running water, heating, and vibrant textiles. Some of the rooms are shaped like igloos and they all have views over the desolate landscape.
The restaurant serves buffet-style meals using regional produce such as llama and lamb. They also offer salt-based specialities, including chicken with salt.
Spend your days exploring the ethereal landscape of the Salar de Uyuni, the colourful lagoons filled with Andean flamingos, and the famous stone tree. Then retreat to the lobby lounge to gaze at the uninterrupted night sky.
This is a beautiful looking and highly original hotel offering a completely unique experience.
