As you approach the gravel road leading up to Amanwella’s pebbled courtyard, you sense that you’ve arrived at the definitive Sri Lankan seaside destination. Situated in a mature coconut grove facing a glorious crescent-shaped beach near the fishing village of Tangalle in Sri Lanka, the retreat derives its name from Aman, or ‘peace’ in Sanskrit, and Wella, the Sinhalese word for ‘beach’.

Comprised of 30 luxurious suites, the Amanwella design exudes clean sophistication with high terracotta roofs, hand-hewn stone walls, and large glass windows. Wake up to the sound of the Indian Ocean rolling up onto the soft sand before taking a refreshing pre-breakfast dip in your own private plunge pool.

Amanwella’s suites are linked by pathways along a landscaped rise overlooking the beach. The hotel has plenty of nooks and crannies to explore and places to sit back and relax including sun decks around the 47-meter pool, two grassy courtyards, and an extensive library.

Location & Getting There
Situated in a mature coconut grove near the fishing village of Tangalle, Amanwella is a 5-6 hours drive from Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport. The resort is a 90-minute drive from Jaipur, which is a short 45-minute flight from Colombo.

Accommodation
The Amanwella comprises of 40 luxurious suites situated on the hillside. The Suites consist of a combined living and sleeping room, a private courtyard and plunge pool, a terrace with sun loungers, and a personal bar. These are ideal for families or couples traveling together as 3 sets of suites share a connecting door on the terrace. Ocean Suites are situated on the lower levels of the hill and enjoy uninterrupted views of the coconut grove and beach. These are free-standing, and 4 sets of suites share a connecting door on the terrace.

Activities
Amanwella is situated in the heart of Wella Wathuara village, so guests can take morning and evening strolls through the village. Other activities include the Mulgirigala Rock Temple, Bundala National Park, Rekawa Turtle Conservation Project, whale watching at Mirissa Harbour, snorkeling, and surfing.
