Les Sources de Caudalie

This luxury boutique hotel is set among the vineyards of the 600-year old Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in southwest France. Despite the oak beams, chalky stone, and rustic exterior, Les Sources de Caudalie is a contemporary hotel built from recycled materials.

The hotel’s 62 rooms and suites are filled with art and antiques. Some feature all solid vintage furniture and claw-foot bathtubs, others are minimalist whitewashed fishermen’s cottages. The hotel’s nine-bedroom historic mansion, La Chartreuse du Thil, is perfect for special occasions and large groups and just a five-minute drive away.

Les Sources de Caudalie offers unique gastronomic experiences at its two restaurants, La Grande’Vigne (two-Michelin star) and La Table du Lavoir. As many ingredients as possible are home-grown on the small farm.

Additional facilities include bars, an indoor pool, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a tennis court. The Caudalie spa has 20 treatment rooms, an indoor pool, and a steam room. Outside there’s a heated pool and a barrel-shaped hot tub.

Location & Getting There
This luxury boutique hotel is set among the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, a 20-minute drive from the center of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Mérignac Airport. It is a 3-hour scenic train ride from Paris.

Accommodation
Most of the 40 rooms have a terrace or a balcony with a beautiful view of the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte's vineyards or on the lake. Junior suites have an additional living room; Suites feature their own private terrace overlooking the vineyards of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte or the hotel lake; Suites on stilts have a charming terrace on stilts that provides views of the pond of Les Sources de Caudalie and oyster-farms of the Arcachon Bay.

Activities
There is an extensive range of activities on offer including wine tours on foot, by bicycle or by car; cooking classes; and tasting lessons at La Tour de la Dégustation. Bordeaux vineyards also extend as far as the Médoc, Sauternes, Pomerol, and Pauillac, with many well-known estates producing internationally-reputed wines. These prestigious estates are less than an hour's drive away from the hotel. Being taken through the vineyards in a horse-drawn carriage is also an experience not to be missed!
