A destination in itself, Prague offers smoky gothic architecture, the 14th-century Charles Bridge and the castle ramparts and the spires of St Vitus Cathedral. Add a vibrant music and arts scene, a still-thriving folk culture and incredible restaurants, and you get a European Capital like no other. Pull up a seat at local bar, enjoy some of the Czech’s globally-famous beers, and watch the world go by.

Big cities like České Budějovice and Plzeň also offer great culture and cafes, but it’s Brno, towards the south, that provides history, creativity and mystery away from the crowds. Underground attractions, quirky eateries and parks provide entertainment, and the surrounding Moravian countryside is excellent for hiking and biking.
Away from the cities the landscape is dotted with medieval towns, national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Rural and rustic Bohemia offers rich farmland and thick forests dotted with castles, chateaux and picturesque villages. Český Krumlov in Bohemia’s deep south offers a riverside setting and stunning castle, and is the place to wander tiny streets filled with Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo trappings.

To the west, Karlovy Vary is known as the ‘spa town of the country’ with its impressive colonnades, fairy tale spa buildings and health-restoring sulphurous waters. At night, lights twinkle from everywhere and you could be mistaken for thinking that you’re walking through a movie set.
