Located in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, Little Makalolo Camp is tucked away in a teak forest, overlooking a vibrant waterhole that sees a regular procession of wildlife coming down to drink.
The camp offers the luxury of privacy for guests who enjoy an exclusive experience in the remote wilderness. Just six traditional African tents (including one family unit) sit on site, offering spacious accommodations with en suite bathrooms featuring indoor and outdoor showers. Linking the tents to the main area are teak walkways that wind to the centre of camp, where there's a separate dining and living area with an open fire.
Wildlife is the heart of every visit to Little Makalolo Camp, with opportunities to view incredible game. On morning and mid-afternoon game drives in open 4x4s, and on walks with an expert guide, guests can expect to see large antelope herds, loping giraffes, and majestic elephants. Birdlife is also abundant in the area, with over 400 species recorded in the park.
Location & Getting There
Little Makalolo is set on a private concession in the heart of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. The camp can be accessed by road or air from Victoria Falls. The drive takes about four hours. Light aircraft can be chartered to land at Makalolo Airstrip, which is a short drive to camp.
Accommodation
The six tented chalets of Little Makalolo combine the classic canvas structures of a typical bush camp with the comforts of a contemporary safari lodge. Timber structures are covered by canvas and mesh, allowing a breeze to blow through the rooms in the hot summer months, with the ability to be closed for warmth in the winter. Each tent also has a writing table with views out to the bush. Woven rugs cover cool concrete floors, providing soft and colourful accents underfoot. Crisp white linens sparkle under the warm lights. Copper basins are polished to a shine in the en suite bathrooms. Double doors open onto small shaded verandas, a spot to relax in the heat of the day.
Activities
Start your days early with a sunrise game drive as you watch nature awaken to daylight in the morning sun. Head out again mid-afternoon and once more in the evening, for a completely different set of species, at home under the starry night skies. Take a walking safari with an expert guide. Dip into the pool or indulge in a tipple on the comfortable leather sofas in the social lounge. Your days are governed by nature and your imagination.
Children
Little Makalolo in Zimbabwe does accept children, but please keep in mind that apart from guided safari activities, specific activities for children are not offered.
