Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge

One of five spectacular safari lodges and houses that make up the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve on the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge sits on a steep bank overlooking the river after which it is named.

With just nine spacious suites, this Malaria-free lodge is effortlessly luxurious and exclusive with a beautiful classic-contemporary style. The lodge is not fenced off, and wraparound viewing decks lead from the main lodge’s dining and sitting rooms and the bar. Long wooden walkways, stone walls and thatch roofs all aim to bring the outside indoors. After a day spent on safari, relax on the outdoor deck, read a book in the library, and enjoy delicious African-inspired meals in the candlelit dining room or by the fire in the enclosed boma.

Kwandwe safaris are second to none. There are twice daily game drives included in each stay as well as nature walks, big game walking safaris, fishing, and the opportunity to track white and black rhino, elephant and buffalo on foot.

Children aged over 12 years old are welcome at the lodge but we recommend this property for couples or honeymooners looking for a memorable and romantic South African safari experience.

Location & Getting There

Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge is located on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The nearest national airport is in Port Elizabeth, 160 km (100 miles) from the reserve. There are daily scheduled flights from both Cape Town and Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth. From there, it is 2 hours by road to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. The reserve also has a private airstrip and helicopter transfers can be arranged.

Weather

Rainfall occurs from September to May. The temperatures between October to March are high and may reach above 36 degrees. Winter (May-August) has lovely warm days and cool evenings and mornings.
