Skeleton Coast Shipwreck Lodge

Shipwreck Lodge is a unique property in a remote and rugged part of the African wilderness, and the first lodge to be built on the coast itself. The unrivaled location within the park offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife viewing and desert adventures. Keep an eye out for lions, elephants and kudu amongst other species.

Each of the 10 rooms have been built to look like the shipwrecks that line the beach, and their innovative design is unlike any other camp. There are eight twin or double rooms, and two cabins can take extra beds for children. All are en suite and solar-powered and there's also a wood-burning stove.

In the centre of camp there's an innovatively-designed lounge and restaurant with a wide, wraparound deck and uninterrupted views across the sand all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Away from the camp activities are endless. Spend a day exploring the dry riverbeds, learn about the history behind the dramatic shipwrecks that line the mist-enshrouded coastline, and look for tok-tokkie beetles and the unusual plants and lichens that survive in the cold fog here.

Shipwreck Lodge, Skeleton Coast Information

Location

Shipwreck Lodge is located 40km north of Möwe Bay along the famous Skeleton Coast Central Concession, between the Hoarusib and Hoanib Rivers in the Skeleton Coast Park. Spanning over 146,600 hectares of land, Shipwreck lodge is nestled between the sand dunes and boast views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Transport to the lodge can be arranged, with prior notice required. Guests are asked to make their way to Möwe Bay via car or plane and a transfer will pick them up from the bay to the accommodation.

Accommodation

• 10 lodges comprising of 8 twins/doubles and 2 family rooms
• Each room is equipped with a shower, toilet and washbasin complimented with the necessary guest amenities. Each room also has a writing desk, bedside lamp and a wood burning stove
• A small coffee and tea station with hot water flask (refillable at reception) is included

Activities

There are plenty of activities offered at Shipwreck Lodge. Spend your day visiting the seal colony at Möwe Bay or the nearby Himba villages. Look out for wildlife such as desert-adapted elephants or go on a sundowner drive through the surrounding sand dunes.
