The Kandy House is a stylish boutique heritage hotel 12 kilometres from Kandy’s town centre in Sri Lanka. A carefully renovated ‘Wallawwa’ - or colonial manor house - it’s situated in the spice-growing hills, far enough away to escape the hustle of the city, but close enough to use as a base for visiting its most memorable sights.

The hotel is set in the spice-growing hills that surround Kandy – far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to use as a base for visiting its most memorable sights. Its completion heralded a long-awaited event in the hill country capital: a brilliant small boutique hotel capable of offering stylish and private accommodation and attentive personal service in a beautiful natural setting.

The Kandy House is ideally located to explore the area. Relax in the Botanical Gardens, visit the Temple of the Tooth to view ceremonies presided over by resident monks and taste Ceylon tea at the old tea factory. For the sporty there is the world class Victoria Golf Course, the international cricket stadium and the magical Knuckles Range with peaks of 1500m and varieties of wildlife is a wonderful place to hike and bike.

The nine soothing rooms are divided into Deluxe and Ultra, and named after butterflies in the region. Palatially furnished, they come with light white interiors, polished hardwood floorboards and beautiful Dutch-style antique furniture. There are no TV’s or mini-bars, and the Ultra rooms come complete with a personal butler.

Everything here revolves around a central courtyard and a lounge area. The freshwater infinity pool in the garden and the wide verandas are perfect for dozing or unwinding with a book.

Every night guests can indulge in a different set dinner menu, and the candlelit dinners are especially popular with honeymooners.

Why we recommend The Kandy House

“The Kandy House is the former home of an aristocratic Sri Lankan family, one member of which betrayed the country as Ceylon fell into British hands in 1815. For this reason you feel a wonderful sense of history upon arrival here, made even more prominent due to the old family photos and antique furniture that still remain. This is a very pretty and calming spot in the Cultural Triangle in Sri Lanka, and the inclusion of a freshwater pool is something of a plus-point.”
