Colombo

Colombo is Sri Lanka's capital city and still has a great deal of old world, colonial charm. Spend a day exploring the city's temples, old churches and markets before moving on to the Southern Beaches or Sri Lanka's magical Hill Country.

Paradise Road is an excellent little place to shop for locally made handicrafts such as incense burners, candle holders, and beautiful crockery in Colombo. Gallery Cafe is an elegant restaurant set back off the road and serves excellent food in beautiful surroundings. We also recommend sitting on the outdoor terrace at the ageing, (but still charming!), Galle Face Hotel. Sip a cold gin and tonic and watch the sun set over the Laccadive Sea.
