Oslo

Oslo is one Europe’s coolest capitals with stunning architecture, Scandinavian style, rich culture and an ever-impressive roster of top restaurants. What sets it apart is its stunning setting, framed by fjord-like cliffs and vast areas of thick woodland.

By area it’s one of the largest capitals in the world, giving it a relaxed and unhurried vibe without the bustle of other major cities. It’s location makes it perfect for outdoor adventure enthusiasts, while skiing, sailing, cycling, hiking and more can be enjoyed within the city limits.

The locals’ love of the outdoors is matched by only by their love culture. Art is reason enough to visit, with museums galore including the world-class National Gallery. The Bygdoy Peninsula hosts a fine collection of museums including the Norwegian Folk museum, and the Viking ship museum.

Visit the rooftop of the minimalist National Opera & Ballet for wonderful panoramas of the city and rugged coast. And we certainly recommend seeing the bizarre sculptures of the famous Vigeland Park.

Outdoor-lovers be sure to head to Nordmarka in north Oslo, where snow dusted evergreens stretch for miles in a wintery storybook setting. Hiking, biking and fishing are popular in the summer here, and skiing and snowboarding in the winter.

Oslo is a fab destination in its own right, but also a must-stop destination for any Norway itinerary. Starting in the capital, the Bergen Railway takes seven hours, winding its way through mountains passes, ancient glaciers and mirror-lakes. It remains one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys.
