Joyce

Senior Sales Consultant

There is a Chinese saying, "Reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles."

Growing up in Hong Kong and spending three incredible childhood years in Vancouver, Joyce's parents said they should do both. Make the best of both worlds.

The summer Joyce turned 15, I enrolled myself in a three-week immersion course to brush up my English in Berkshire, England. Somehow she managed to convince her parents to let her travel ten thousand more miles to expose herself beyond the boarding school and the weekly local excursions. She bought her first Lonely Planet and read everything she could find online on "How to plan a solo backpacking trip." She invested in a month-long Eurail Pass. After the summer course, off she went to visit 9 countries in Western Europe over 31 days with "parent letters" (that she wrote and signed herself) in her backpack, allowing her to check in at every hostel without the company of an adult.

Little did she know that itinerary planning experience would one day lead her to a travel consultant job, 15 years later. Working in travel meant the travel bug never got out of Joyce's system; it got more nurtured and more inspired to explore the farthest corners of the world. Standing in front of millions of penguins in South Georgia, climbing Africa’s highest mountain Kilimanjaro, getting up close and personal with polar bears in Arctic Canada and going out of her way to get Lesotho and Eswatini stamps in her passport are just some of the travels Joyce never gets enough.

That 9-country journey didn't stop there. Joyce has since travelled to more than 91 countries and territories, covering all seven continents.

A cocktail fan and wannabe mixologist, she believe the best travel experiences we create for our travellers is a personalised cocktail of senses, adventure, understanding, connection and a feeling at home. Travel is irresistibly addictive and powerful because you never know when you’ll lose your heart, find your soul in a foreign place, where renewal, transformation and epiphany could just be around the corner.

Joyce says she doen't read as much now, but the mileage keeps going up. 'Working at Lightfoot, inspiring our travellers to nurture their travel bug with us, is how I make the best of my work and travel worlds now. '

Joyce's life motto: Work hard. Play hard. Travel hard. Live hard.
