This is an itinerary that brings to life the legends of ancient Egypt. Parents will love seeing the sites they’ve heard about since childhood, and kids will adore playing Indiana Jones amongst the tombs and relics. It’s a magical journey with a lot of learning but also plenty of time to unwind.
Upon arrival in Cairo you’ll be met by a Lightfoot Travel representative who’ll escort you by private vehicle to your hotel.
Check into your hotel and enjoy the afternoon by the pool, relaxing after a long journey.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before meeting your guide who’ll accompany you to explore the Giza Plateau. Your guide will regale the kids with the legends of ancient Egypt as you ride camels and crawl deep inside the tomb within the Great Pyramid of Cheops.
Have lunch at Marriott Mena House before returning to the city for some pool time.
This morning you’ll visit the Egyptian Museum where the kids will love the mummies room and looking through treasures found in the child king Tutankhamen’s tomb.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s old bazaar.
Lastly, head to the Citadel looming over the capital for panoramic city views.
After breakfast you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Abu Simbel (via Aswan).
Upon arrival you’ll be met by your guide and taken on a visit to one of Egypt’s most incredible sites – the great sun temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Queen Nefertari.
You’ll then fly back to Aswan where you’ll be escorted to the river to board your Nile Cruise. Enjoy lunch on board before heading out for an afternoon sail aboard a felucca – a traditional wooden sailing boat. In the late afternoon, enjoy time at the pool on board while you catch the sunset.
This morning, board a speedboat to visit the majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilika. This is a wide-open space and the kids will love learning about the hieroglyphs and climbing through the ruins.
Return to your boat for lunch and enjoy a cooking class where the whole family can make Egyptian specialties and deserts. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo dedicated to the crocodile God Sobek.
In the evening, enjoy a buffet of Egyptian specialties and take part in an “Egyptian Night” costume party. Dress up the family in a traditional galabeyya and learn a few signature dance moves!
This morning you’ll set off in a horse and carriage to explore the Temple of Horus. Return to the boat and cruise to Esna while you have lunch.
In the afternoon your Egyptologist will guide you round the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum at Esna. This small and beautifully preserved Great Hypostyle Hall was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius.
Start your day with a visit to the temples of Luxor before continuing to the Temple of Karnak. The kids will love playing hide and seek amongst the towering pillars.
In the afternoon, visit the Valley of the Kings where you can witness the mummy of King Tutankhamen and explore the magical tombs. You’ll also have the chance to visit at least one tomb in the Valley of the Queens before heading to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
This evening enjoy a farewell gala dinner.
After breakfast you’ll bid farewell to the staff before setting off for the Red Sea coastal town of Hurghada, approximately four hours’ drive away. Enjoy scenes of rural Egypt along the Nile before heading into the desert.
Upon arrival at the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh, settle into your room and spend the afternoon at leisure.
Spend the next two days at leisure. Simply kick back, relax and enjoy the hotel facilities.
Enjoy a spa treatment (or two!), snorkel in the Red Sea waters, or curl up with a good book in your suite.
Enjoy the morning at leisure, soaking up the sun and sea air before being transferred to the airport for your flight back to Cairo. Spend your last afternoon in the capital, shopping for souvenirs and taking in the sites one final time.
