Explore the highlights of Jordan on this classic 6-night itinerary that takes in Amman’s historic relics, magnificent Petra, and the hauntingly desolate Wadi Rum and adds a touch of relaxation at the Dead Sea.
Arrive in Amman and transfer to your hotel in the centre of the capital. Check in and freshen up after your journey.
Depending on your arrival time, spend the afternoon visiting some of the key sites in Amman including the Citadel, Archaeological Museum, Roman Amphitheatre and Folklore Museum.
This evening, we can of course make dinner reservations for you at any of Amman’s funky restaurants.
This morning head north to Jerash, spending 2 hours visiting the extensive site with a local guide. Jerash is one of the most extensive and best persevered Roman sites in the entire Middle East.
Continue to Ajloun, an extremely well preserved Crusader-era castle that is unique in that it was built by the Arabs, not by the European crusaders. The castles, vaulted ceilings, crumbling walls and shadowy corners are a delight to explore under your own steam.
This morning you will drive south to Petra with a few stops for sightseeing along the way. The journey should take approximately 6 hours including the stops.
First visit Mount Nebo, the mountain where Moses was allowed to see the Holy Land but not allowed to Enter it. Here you will find the “Church of Moses”, built by the first Christians.
Continue to Madaba, the “City of Mosaics”, perched on an archaeological site with more than 4,000 years of history buried beneath it. St. George’s Church houses the world famous mosaicfloor depicting a large mosaic map of Palestine.
Finally visit kerak, which was the capital of the biblical kingdom of Moab. This is one of the largest and best preserved Crusader castles in the region.
After walking down the Siq Canyon, with anticipation slowly building to your first glimpse of The Treasury (famous from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade), there are many further attractions as the sheer scale of the place begins to unfold.
The Monastery is a must, competing with The Treasury for the title of Petra's most iconic sight, and the 800+ steps that take you there can be quite a challenge! Another favourite spot is the Place of High Sacrifice, from where you will enjoy the most impressive, sweeping views of the site.
This morning set off further south to the hauntingly beautiful Wadi Rum. At the entrance to the protected area you will swap vehicles and set off with a local Bedouin to tour some of the best known sites in the protected area. Get out often to explore the formations on foot.
Wadi Rum, the largest Wadi in Jordan, is also known as the Valley of the Moon and is cut into sandstone and granite rock, offering some of the most magnificent desert scenaries you will ever see!
After your exploration, continue on to your tented camp for the evening.
This morning, wake up to sunrise and breakfast amongst the dunes. Set off north to the Dead Sea area where you will check into your resort and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Make sure to cover yourself with the healing Dead Sea mud and then rinse it off in the sea as you float atop the salty waters. We can of course book any spa treatments for you this afternoon.
You will have the day at leisure.
Your driver will be waiting to take you by private transfer to the Amman Airport in time for your onward flight home.
