Avoid the crowds and regular camp sites along the classic Inca trail and opt for the Salkantay trek instead. Expect vistas that are out of this world as you trek towards Machu Picchu – think towering snow-capped Andes mountains as well as the cloud forest and small villages to wander through.
You’ll be met upon arrival in Lima and transferred to your accommodation. The rest of your day will be spent at your leisure.

This morning you’ll be escorted to the airport for your flight to Cusco.
Upon arrival you’ll be escorted to your accommodation. You'll have our list of recommendations, and Lightfoot Travel can also arrange excursions prior to your departure.
Enjoy an escorted tour to the Inca ruins of Tarawasi, followed by a visit to the mountain village of Mollepata where you can see El Pedregal, a beautiful farmhouse. You’ll then head to Challacancha to begin your hike to Soraypampa along the “Camino Real” (Royal Path).
Head on a hike to Lake Humantay that takes you up the slopes that border the plateau behind Salkantay Lodge. Once at the top you’ll have a chance to take in the tranquility of this magical spot.
The second half of your day will be spent at your leisure.
Hike up the Rio Blanco valley, circling Humantay Peak and encounter expansive plateaus dotted with boulders. After reaching the Salkantay Pass embark on a descent through fields to a hot picnic lunch.
Continue along the banks of the Salkantay River and spend the afternoon lounging in the sun or relaxing in the outdoor jacuzzi with the lush green mountains surrounding you.
Start your day hiking in the Santa Teresa River valley before beginning the Llactapata Inca Trail. Visit an organic coffee plantation on the way.
Today’s climb takes you towards the Aobamaba River valley that connects you to Machu Picchu. After lunch you’ll end the hike at the Hidroelectrica train station. A one-hour scenic train ride delivers you to Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.
Visit Machu Picchu early in the morning and witness the Watchtower, the Temple of the Sun, and the royal Inca residences in their glory.
This afternoon take the Vistadome train to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley.
Enjoy exploring the Sacred Valley.
Start at Chinchero, a small town best known for its marketplace selling textiles. Next, head to the famous salt mines of Maras before completing your tour with a visit to Moray’s terraced pits.
Today you will be escorted to Cusco airport for your onward journey.
