Amankora Bumthang
Gangtey, Bumthang & BeyondAmankora has created a series of five lodges, providing a circular pilgrimage through the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan‘s breathtaking central and western valleys. The lodges are all unique and allow you to experience the best Bhutan has to offer whilst not compromising on the level of accommodation.
Amankora Bumthang was opened in 2007. It rests adjacent to First and Second King’s palace, Wangdichholing, within the town of Jakar in the Choekhor Valley, which combines an exotic mix of sloping pine forests, apple orchards and restful fields of farm produce. Throughout this valley lie many of the Kingdom’s most auspicious and highly revered houses of worship and ancient monasteries, many of which are decorated with still vibrant ancient wall paintings and richly adorned alters. The 16 suites, all overlooking the courtyard and Wangdichholing Palace and monastery, are placed in four separate structures each containing two suites on the ground floor and two on the upper floor.
The valley offers some wonderful day treks which allow you to discover some of the local cottage industries which produce the highly sought after Bumthang butter, Swiss cheeses, honey, brandies and also home to the local Red Panda brewery. From Amankora Bumthang you can also experience the Bumthang Owl Trek. This is a two day trek involving staying at different camps along the way, at which you can hear the howling of owls which gives this trek its name.
