Northern Spain Delights
This tour is a delight for foodies and wine lovers. You'll have the opportunity to dine in the gastronomic hot-spot of San Sebastian which has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere else in the world, as well as explore the art, culture, history and architecture of northern Spain, Madrid and Barcelona.

Day 1 Arrival Madrid
Upon arrival at the airport you’ll be escorted by private car to your accommodation in Madrid.
The remainder of your day will be spent at leisure.

Day 2 Madrid
Today, you have a guided history and art tour of Madrid with an art historian.
You’ll learn about the city’s architectural development since its foundation in the 9th century by the Moors. You’ll also visit the Prado, one of the top museums in the world, where you’ll see paintings by some of Spain’s most celebrated artists including Goya, Velasquez and El Greco.
In the evening, enjoy a traditional flamenco show.

Day 3 Madrid - Toledo
This morning you’ll be driven to Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Spain’s most magnificent cities. Known as the ‘City of Three Cultures’, it’s famous as a place where Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities coexisted in harmony for years.
Visit the Gothic Cathedral, marvel at the Alcazar, and visit the Museum of El Greco, who lived and worked in the city.
Return to Madrid in the evening.

Day 4 Madrid - Pamplona - San Sebastian
This morning you’ll be driven to Atocha Railway Station for the train to Pamplona, the capital of the Navarre region.
Upon arrival, a guide will escort you on a historical tour of the city, including the cathedral, Castle Square, the citadel and medieval walls.
In the late afternoon you’ll be driven to San Sebastian. Settle in and enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 5 San Sebastian
Once a small fishing village, San Sebastian has grown to become one of Spain’s most beautiful cities. Today you’ll be shown around the city by a local guide who’ll explain its history and introduce you to its beautiful beaches.
In the evening, enjoy a night out with a local. You’ll visit bars and enjoy pintxos - the Basque version of tapas.

Day 6 San Sebastian - La Rioja
Enjoy a full-day excursion to La Rioja, a two-hour drive from San Sebastian.
Famous as being one of the main wine regions of Spain, it’s the perfect place to indulge in a wine tasting tour. Along the way, you’ll discover the cathedral and the monasteries of San Millan de Suso and San Millan de Yuso.
Your trip continues in Laguardia, where you’ll visit a winery for lunch and a tour before returning to San Sebastian.

Day 7 San Sebastian - Basque Country
Continue your exploration of the Basque Country with a guided tour of some of its coastal villages.
Your guide will take you to fishing villages of San Juan de Luz and Hondarribia, and over the border into Biarritz, France’s glitzy playground for the rich and famous.

Day 8 San Sebastian - Bilbao
Depart San Sebastian and head to Bilbao, about an hour’s drive away, where you’ll check into your next hotel.
In the afternoon, your guide will escort you on a walking tour of the city, famous for its architecture, the Guggenheim Museum, and its gastronomic scene.

Day 9 Bilbao - Barcelona
Today you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Barcelona, where you’ll be met and driven to your hotel.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure, indulging in a spa treatment, exploring the hotel’s art collection and garden, or heading into the city.

Day 10 Barcelona
Start your day with a guided ‘Modernist Barcelona’ tour.
You’ll discover the roots of Catalan modernism and see celebrated architecture by some of its pioneers including Gaudi and his masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia.

Day 11 Barcelona - Girona
Today you’ll enjoy a full-day guided excursion to Girona.
First you’ll visit the medieval Old Town, including the Jewish Quarter, medieval walls, and cathedral.
Next you’ll witness some of the medieval villages around Girona before ending your trip with a tour of the Dali Museum.

Day 12 Barcelona
Enjoy a day at leisure in Barcelona.
Relax on the beaches, explore the galleries and museums, wander through the Ramblas, or browse the designer shops. Your Lightfoot Travel Designer can recommend activities that suit your interests prior to departure.

Day 13 Departure
Today you’ll be escorted to the airport for your onward journey.
