Gaia Riverlodge

Belize

Tucked away in Belize’s rugged Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Gaïa Riverlodge, sister property to Matachica on Ambergris Caye, sits atop a tall ridge overlooking the Five Sisters waterfalls and a valley of bird-flecked Caribbean pines.

The hotel includes 16 beautiful thatched cabanas with panoramic windows, mahogany interiors and comfortable beds. Each bathroom is unique and decorated with bright, hand-painted Mexican tiles. Guests can enjoy views of the mountains, waterfall, river or garden, depending on the room type.

Follow a long series of stone steps or take the hydro-powered tram to the falls for an invigorating dip or to relax on Gaïa’s small, sandy island with shaded hammocks. Enjoy swimming in the river, and make natural swimming holes your own private pool.

Back up on the ridge, Gaïa Riverlodge’s restaurant features an expansive wrap-around veranda with dramatic views, a menu of delicious Belizean fare, and dangerously good drinks. After the sun sets, connect with our guides and guests from all around the world around the fire pit.

Why we recommend Gaia Riverlodge

Reconnect with nature at the Gaia Riverlodge, where you will be surrounded by sounds of the Belize Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. Setting the bar high for sustainable tourism, the hotel operates its own hydropower plant by harnessing energy from the river below to supply electricity which keeps the property's carbon footprint to an absolute minimum. The electric tram might be a relief for those not keen on climbing down 300 steps to the river where natural water pools, palapas and the beach await.
