Victoria Falls

Mosi-Oa-Tunya was the original name of Victoria Falls, translating to ‘smoke that thunders’ and it’s quite appropriate as the mist and sprays are visible from over 80 km away. Nothing but seeing it with your own eyes can do justice to this wonder of nature.

There are endless descriptions of the fall’s power and beauty: a stampede of elephants, a volcano erupting with diamonds, or as British explorer David Livingstone said it- the falls were ‘gazed upon by angels in their flight’. Being the first colonial settler to see the cascade, he named it directly after the Queen of England, Queen Victoria.

For the thrill-seekers, abseiling down 50 metres to the Bataka Gorge and then swing or zipline across the thundering Zambezi River might appeal. If that’s not enough then a 111metre bungee jump from the Vic Falls Bridge should step it up a notch!

To really push the limits, sky diving over the falls will give you enough adrenalin for a lifetime. Of course, there are less extreme options with bush walks and canoe safaris where you can catch sight of the abundant wildlife up close.
