Camp Sossus is located on Namibia’s Namib Tsaris Conservancy, a thirty-minute drive from the gateway to Sossusvlei and the Great Namib Sand Sea which has recently been declared a World Heritage Site.
Built in a naturally formed amphitheatre within striking distance of Sossusvlei, the property ideally positioned to avoid the harsh desert sun. Designed to offer an under-canvas experience with a twist, the eight tents at Camp Sossus are ideal for those seeking to commune with nature. Each one features an en suite open-air bathroom comprising a flush toilet, washbasin and bucket shower with fitted solar lighting and a ‘star bed’, the perfect venue from which to gaze up at the night sky.
There’s also a dining area and unique desert pools where guests can cool off from the heat.
Camp Sossus is a great base from which to explore the dunes at Sossusvlei – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest desert in the world – but also the private conservancy which is a vital refuge for wildlife, particularly in the dry season.
Location & Getting There
Camp Sossus is an exclusive, private desert retreat in Namibia, a thirty-minute drive from the gateway to Sossusvlei.
Accommodation
The eight spacious Meru-style tents include two which can be used for family use. Each come with a roof constructed from recycled oil drums and a natural stone wall on the east side to protect from the wind.
Common areas include gas fireplaces for colder winter nights, and there's also an artisan coffee station serving the camp's own blend. The communal mess tent has comfortable seating, as does the dining area and fire pit.
Activities
Activities-wise, guests at Camp Sossus can look forward to multi-day walks, nights sleeping beneath the stars, hot air balloon flights and helicopter or fixed wing scenic flights. Embark on private, guided game drives and walking safaris to spot oryx, springbok, Hartmann’s zebra, kudu and giraffe – for starters!

Due to the nature of Camp Sossus being exclusive-use, there are no age restrictions and children can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis. However, please bear in mind that there are no specific child-oriented activities or facilities, so we would recommend it for ages 12 and upwards.
