Val d’Isere

Beginners will find it tough in Val d’Isère, for the first few days at least, but skiing here will also accelerate your learning curve. This is an expert territory, with many experienced skiers (including a few on our team) placing Val d’Isère – and the ski area it shares Tignes – in a very small group of the world’s most elite resorts.

For advanced skiers, the main attraction is the mind-blowing 10,000 hectares of off-piste trails, most easily accessible by the ski lifts. As well as some legendary black runs like Tour du Charvet and La Face (“Fass”), which featured in the 1992 Winter Olympics

The beauty of Val d’Isère, however, is that it’s a world-class international ski resort, yet hasn’t lost its authentic regional Savoyard charm. In the build-up to 1992, Val d’Isère went through an extensive beautification process and it remains an attractive, atmospheric winter retreat. Its excellent restaurants and plethora of plus bars ensure its après-ski scene keeps up with the quality of the skiing.
