Our pick of the best experiences in Tasmania

Visit Tasmania in Australia and immerse yourself in the world’s last great temperate wilderness – almost a fifth of Tasmania is a designated and protected World Heritage Area, comprising pristine wild coastlines, untamed forests, Aboriginal treasures and an array of plants and animals.

One of the most famous highlights is Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where ancient pines fringe glacial lakes and icy streams cascade down rugged mountains. For beaches, Wineglass Bay, encompassed within the Freycinet National Park, is considered one of the top ten beaches in the world.

For some history, head to Tasmania's "inescapable prison", Port Arthur. Today, the convicts and guards are gone, but the dramatic landscape and remains of more than 30 buildings remain.

The city of Hobart is up and coming fast thanks to MONA, Museum of Old and New Art, a destination itself offering a vineyard, accommodation, fine dining, wine bar, cellar door tastings, and of course, the museum and art gallery.
