Hoshinoya Kyoto is nestled in the Arashiyama district, in Japan’s former capital, Kyoto. This serene riverside retreat is accessed by a wooden Hoshinoya river boat on a gentle 15-minute journey past dense green forests, making it the ideal place to recharge following a few days of temple touring.
The renovated buildings are a modern take on traditional ryokan inn-style. Each of the 25 rooms and suites features minimalist Japanese décor, futons, sliding glass screens, tatami mat flooring, latticed lanterns and walls of handcrafted Kyoto paper. There are superb views of the river and the mountains in the distance.
Guests can enjoy exquisite, Kyoto-style Kaiseki cuisine in the Michelin starred restaurant. Dishes are prepared using locally sourced seasonal ingredients and are served with sake or fine wines.
After a busy day stroll through the tranquil garden; sip tea in the Floating Tea Room; play traditional Japanese games; or get pampered with a massage.
