Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh in Cambodia still retains a small-town atmosphere, with streets teeming with scooters and the quieter world of stilted villages lining the waterfront.

The pinnacle of the country’s troubled past is centered in its capital city, alongside its wide boulevards, busy markets and the stately Royal Palace. Visit this city which retains trace of French colonial lustre, with your private guide who will quite likely be able to give you a moving insight as to how the recent atrocities affected people so near and dear to him. The Killing Fields and S-21 Prison are a harsh but necessary reminder of the cruelties suffered by these beautiful people not too long ago.

Lightfoot Travel’s favourite hotel is the stately Raffles, offering the finest service in the city, and beautiful gardens that offer quiet and nostalgic recluse from the bustling city outside. The beautifully preserved hotel is only a stone’s throw from the airport, and central to sights including the Silver Pagoda.

When the dust of bustle of the city starts to make you weary, make your way south to the sleepy coastal towns or the grand stone temples of Angkor north of Phnom Penh.
