Beijing & Northern China

Beijing is the capital of China, and has been the heart of the country's politics and culture for much of the past 700 years.

The city is dotted with opulent palaces, temples, gardens, tombs, and crumbling gates, not to mention the magnificent Great Wall. We know Beijing well and have scoured the city to find the tastiest restaurants hidden away down the quietest hutongs, the bars with the best views over the Forbidden City, and the most remote areas to hike the Great Wall where you’re likely to come across only a handful of other people.

The city has a population of 28 million people making it the second most populous city in the world. These fiery northerners are known for their hot tempers, loud voices, and welcoming friendliness. One of our favourite places to interact with the locals is during the early morning hours at the Temple of Heaven. Watching them do their eclectic exercises throughout the park is an experience in itself and something not to be missed.

Lightfoot Travel has also handpicked a selection of beautiful properties that include Aman at the Summer Palace and The Opposite House, a gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of the city’s bustling shopping and nightlife district of San Li Tun.
